Guide Title: 2002 Boston Restaurants
Overlooking the Public Garden, this "very dignified"
"old favorite" quatered in the stately Hampshire
House mansion (adjacent to the Bull & Finch Pub, aka Cheers)
is a "lovely" choice for a "great" New
American jazz brunch on Sundays replete with "terrific
Bloody Marys"; you'd be hard-pressed to find "classier",
more "traditional Beacon Hill setting" than this
landmark.

Okay, you've seen Cheers, now what? Why not transcend it
- literally - by taking the stairway to the infinitely more
genteel Library Grill? Sitting above the more hectic first
floor bar, the Library Grill in the Hampshire House epitomizes
polished. Befitting its name, there are dark mahogany bookcases
flanking the fireplace. Above and beyond the scholarly touches,
sweeping chandeliers and faux turn-of-the-century portraits
further wrap you in elegance. Arrive on Sunday and one of
the city's longest-running brunches will indulge you with
live jazz, world famous Bloody Marys (they sell the mix) and
superb mid-day fare. A true brunch, in that it straddles breakfast
and lunch, the latter is represented by clam chowder, salads,
grilled salmon, lamb chops, pasta and salmon. For breakfast
lovers, the Library Grill offers omelets; "The Olympic,"
a longtime favorite that brings poached eggs over smoked salmon
and fresh spinach topped with herbed hollandaise on an English
muffin; as well as positively delicious cinnamon French toast.
